It is one of several wildfires currently affecting the western United States, with additional blazes reported in Arizona and Colorado. It's hard to predict what the wind's going to do and that's been the that with the fuels has been the primary driver. Crews are working around the clock in dangerous terrain and more than 800 homes and structures remain under threat. The fire is just seven percent contained and is so big it can be seen from space. To make things worse it's just one of dozens burning through the west. In Arizona the blaze burning on the north rim of the Grand Canyon has continued to grow despite a massive month-long effort from crews and in Colorado at least three fires sparked by lightning are expanding quickly. But for millions of Americans it's not the threat of flames but the plumes of toxic smoke that's posing the greatest danger. Air quality even miles away from the fire can really affect community members particularly elderly, children, people with respiratory issues like asthma. Air quality alerts remain in place across 10 states while in California high temperatures and dry conditions mean things are only likely to get worse.
