New South Wales is currently battling more than 50 bushfires, including a major blaze at Boola Deela on the mid-north coast, where over 1,000 hectares have burned and several properties have been lost. Firefighters, supported by aircraft, are working to control the fires, while a fire near Dubbo has been downgraded but remains a concern.

Authorities have issued total fire bans across much of the state due to extreme heat, with temperatures reaching up to 40°C in Western Sydney and even higher in parts of South Australia. Meteorologists warn that conditions are likely to worsen with stronger winds and higher temperatures, but a cool change is expected to arrive along the coast by early Sunday morning.

Yeah, that's right, Sandra. That emergency warning for a fire burning at Boola Deela on the state's mid-north coast. It has kept our RFS crews very busy today. For the very latest, I'm joined by Commissioner Trent Curtin. Commissioner, that fire at Boola Deela, how serious is it? It's a very serious fire up at Boola Deela. We've seen 1,000 hectares burning today on both sides of the Pacific Highway. We've got more than 100 firefighters up there, supported by aircraft, doing everything they can to bring that fire under control. Unfortunately, we've seen a number of property losses this afternoon, about four at the moment. The sad news for those homes that have been lost for that community there. Also concerns around a fire burning near Dubbo this afternoon. That was at an emergency warning level. That's now been downgraded. Are crews there getting the upper hand? Yeah, it's great to see our crews getting the upper hand at that fire. We've been able to support our firefighters with some aircraft again and get some lines in there to try and cut that fire off. Community in that area still need to keep an eye out and watch that fire because it could flare up again. But at the moment, we're getting the upper hand of it. We've seen some absolutely scorching conditions today. It's going to be even worse tomorrow with increased winds. What are your biggest concerns and what's the advice to people about the weather tomorrow? Yeah, we're really worried about widespread extreme fire conditions tomorrow across New South Wales. We've got total fire vans in place across many parts of the state. We want to make sure that communities are well informed tomorrow, keeping an eye on conditions and making sure they act quickly if a fire does occur. JPG was the latest there from RFSHQ. Thank you. Let's bring in our meteorologist Josh Holt now for his expert analysis. Josh, no question, it was a scorcher today and there's more to come. Yeah, and I'm not going to lie, Sales, I do have serious concerns for tomorrow in terms of the fire weather across New South Wales. We're expecting it to get even hotter and those winds are expected to pick up. We've already got numerous fires burning across New South Wales, as we just heard from the Rural Fire Service. Let's take a look at the temperatures firstly today across Western Sydney. They capped out at 40 degrees for Richmond and Penrith, 39 degrees for Parramatta and Bankstown and we even hit 38 degrees in the CBD today. As mentioned, we do have this hot air mass sitting over Central Australia. In fact, parts of the North East pastoral in South Australia could see heat of 46 degrees tomorrow if you can believe that. But we are seeing a move off that heat from today. Let's fast forward into tomorrow. The trough of low pressure moves across New South Wales and watch this. The northwesterly airflow in ahead of the trough begins to strengthen and that is what, along with the humidity and the very high temperatures, is going to increase these fire dangers tomorrow. So extreme fire dangers, the orange shaded areas including the Sydney, Greater region, the Illawarra region, the Hunter and right across the Central and Northern Inland, total fire bans are in place. Let's take a look at the silver lining. It will come in the form of a cool change which will begin to snake up the New South Wales coast on Saturday night and pushing through Sydney most likely during the early hours of Sunday morning. Could even see some thunderstorms preceding the change but of course I'll have all those details coming up 5-6 Andrew. As always, thank you Josh for your detailed analysis.
