And we begin with a new era for Seattle politics. Katie Wilson will be Seattle's newest mayor, unseating incumbent Bruce Harrell in a race that came down to the smallest numbers. So let's now turn to Frankie Thompson and Frankie you were at Mayor Harrell's concession speech earlier. What was that tone? Yes, she read. Today Mayor Bruce Harrell's address was full of emotion here at City Hall. His wife stood at his side as he thanked the city for allowing him to serve in this role of a lifetime. Though he admitted the election results were unexpected, Harrell says the numbers showed that it was appropriate for him to concede. Greeted with applause and a standing ovation. I have more friends here than I thought. Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell addressed the crowd at City Hall as he conceded in the race for reelection. And even in defeat, Mayor Harrell kept his signature sense of humor. I do want to remind you that I was both the 54th and the 57th mayor of this city of Seattle. I won my full credit for those five days in 2017. Just before this speech, Harrell says he spoke with Mayor-elect Katie Wilson congratulating her on her win. I let her know that our team is standing by to begin the transition work without hesitation and that I look forward to welcoming her to City Hall in the near future and I wish her well. As he addressed dozens of his supporters and his cabinet, Harrell reflected on his administration's own victories during this term. A highlight being improving public safety, including hiring 150 police officers in this year alone. We built from scratch the care department which is going to be what new policing will be all about. The Seattle is the largest city in the country with this kind of model. And while public safety is critical for Seattle's future, Harrell says he hopes the Wilson administration will also incorporate policies on education and economic development. Whether it's the CEO or the janitor, everyone in between, we need those jobs here in Seattle. We have to realize that we cannot take economic development for granted. His message not complete without expressing heartfelt gratitude for his administrative team, praising them for their motivation and passion for innovation, human connection, intellect, and drive. I love you all. Thank you for allowing me to serve. And for the last time you're gonna hear me say this, no you probably won Seattle. Thank you very much. Harrell also spoke of his administration's achievements in revitalizing downtown, though there wasn't enough or not much mentioned about Seattle's homelessness challenges.
