But their strategy is not the one being pushed by Washington. We will assess all viable diplomatic and political measures that we can take to restore freedom of navigation, guarantee the safety of trapped ships and seafarers and resume the movement of vital commodities. Donald Trump has also said that the strait will reopen naturally when the war ends, but allies are sceptical and Paris and London are already rallying a coalition of countries to provide military escorts for commercial vessels when calm is restored.
