Paz has begun talks with the United States and regional partners to address energy supply issues and improve Bolivia’s international standing. However, without a congressional majority, his ability to implement reforms may be limited, and analysts predict potential protests as he attempts to cushion the impact of economic changes on the vulnerable population.

We've extended a hand to all political forces in Parliament because I believe the people's mandate is not confrontation, it's not violence in the streets, but rather restoring institutional order we've lost. Paz and his running mate, former police captain Edman Lara, won over working class and rural voters frustrated by soaring inflation and a crippling dollar shortage that has stifled economic growth and led to widespread fuel shortages. The new president's first test will be to deal with this mess, bringing in US dollars and enough gasoline to ease the shortages that have left Bolivians queuing for days. We have to have faith that his promise that there will be gasoline will come true. New governments always promise a lot. Hopefully, this one will be sincere and keep its word to the Bolivian people. Paz said he's already in talks with the US and regional partners to secure energy supplies and rebuild Bolivia's global standing. We've been in dialogue, especially with the US government. I think this is very important. We spoke with the Deputy Secretary of State about working with friendly countries like Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina to solve the hydrocarbons issue. But without a majority in Congress, pushing through painful reforms won't be easy. I foresee protests very soon after him taking office because he has promised to cushion the fall for the most vulnerable. And the most vulnerable in Bolivia are the most of the population, are the majority. So it will be very difficult to cushion it for all of the population. The new president may enjoy a brief honeymoon period, but for now his victory marks the start of a new era in Bolivian politics filled with both hope and challenges.
