Bitcoin rally continues, tops $72,000 for first time

Well the Bitcoin rally is showing no signs of slowing the cryptocurrency topping seventy two thousand dollars for the first time ever. Now investors have poured nearly 10 billion dollars into a batch of new spot Bitcoin ETFs since they launched about two months ago. Bloomberg's Isabel Lee is here with the details. And Isabel I was off for a few days at the end of last week when I left. Bitcoin was around sixty three thousand dollars. Now it's about nine thousand dollars above that. What is going on. What's going on is that Bitcoin enthusiasts are really powering Bitcoin higher and higher. It's actually almost every day I feel like it hits a record high. And someone told me that Bitcoin is being a flirt because it'll hit a record high and then come back down. If I'm not mistaken Bitcoin is now trading around seventy one thousand five hundred. But it's really kind of impressive and a little crazy how Bitcoin has hit some has climbed 70 percent this year. And that's on the back of its 150 percent gain last year. And of course if Bitcoin gains smaller coins also gain in crypto related stocks also gain. So it's just green on the screen today. All right. Bitcoin being a flirt you know you've got to keep it exciting. Of course it does have a lot of buyers not just of course from ETF investors but also Michael Saylor out in the market again. So Michael Saylor yes he bought again. Twelve thousand Bitcoin. I've recently learned that it's never plural. It's just Bitcoin. And it's the second largest purchase he made. And for now he has around two hundred five thousand tokens which is around 14 billion. So the enthusiasm of Michael Saylor just really translates to others retail investors and institutional traders because they're just really putting in more money into this space. And as we know flows drive the price. So this is what I tried to explain last week in a piece that this is a spot Bitcoin ETF. It's not tied to derivatives or anything. So if people buy if you see inflows these issuers have to buy the coin. And Bloomberg Intelligence recent estimate is that Bitcoin ETF now holds around 76 760 thousand Bitcoin. So then it's really a scarcity plan. We're seeing having this year. So more and more people are really kind of like oh my God I have to own Bitcoin because after all there are only 21 million coins out there.
