This mass mobilization was triggered by a disturbing increase in the fatalities among women due to violence, with official figures indicating that on average, one woman has been killed every four days in Australia this current year, totaling 27 victims. This is nearly double the rate compared to the same time frame last year. Moreover, a recent tragic incident in Sydney, where a stabbing attack resulted in the deaths of six people—most of whom were women—has further highlighted the urgent need for action against this form of violence.

Demonstrators argue that the root of this pervasive issue lies in long-standing societal misogyny, emphasizing the importance of educating young men and boys to break this cycle of violence. The rallies have attracted significant attention; Prime Minister Anthony Albanese made a point of attending the rally in the capital city, Canberra.
