He was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in recognition of his contributions and released over 50 singles between 1958 and 1965. Joye also played a pivotal role in the early career of the Bee Gees, producing their first single and supporting them as they began their rise to fame. He was celebrated for his work on the television show Bandstand, which helped amplify his career during a time when international acts dominated the scene. Joye later expanded his influence into radio broadcasting and is remembered fondly for his music and friendships. He has died at the age of 89.

Col Joy produced the song and the Joy Boys formed part of the band. But as a group, I rate them as number one more so than the Beatles and the Beach Boys and all those. On bandstand, he shone at a time when British and American artists traditionally dominated. His star amplified by the show and his friendship with host Brian Henderson. In those days, you made a record if it was a hit, which none of us had hits. As such, we sang other people's songs and tried to sound like Elvis and all that, which we never could. But if you had a hit record then in Sydney, it was a hit record in Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, everywhere. Because of bandstand. A lot of them have been called to the big concert in the sky, but their music is going to live on forever. In 1980, he hit the airwaves in a different way. It's just been announced that preliminary documents have been signed between the 4KQ licence holder, Labour Broadcasting Pty Ltd, and a consortium headed by the Sydney-based company, Col Joy Enterprises.
