Australia has retained the Ashes, winning the series against England after just three tests and securing the urn before Christmas. The victory came swiftly, with England losing the Ashes in less than nine days of cricket after initially holding a strong position in the first test.

Following the series win, Australia's on-field concerns have eased, though spinner Nathan Lyon is likely to miss upcoming matches due to a hamstring injury, and Pat Cummins remains sidelined. Travis Head, who scored a century in the second innings, is preparing for celebrations in Adelaide.

There's the edge and there's the catch. And with that, it was all over. Three tests in, the Ashes retained before Christmas, inside 11 days. England, which had been in a dominant position on day two of the first test, had lost the treasured urn less than nine days of cricket later. We've had moments where we've been, you know, very good, but Australia have been a lot better than us on, you know, a much longer, over a much longer period of time in the series so far. You know, a chat before the series is how evenly poised it's going to be and, you know, to win it in straight sets, it doesn't get much better than that. With the Ashes secure yet again, Australia's on-field issues are suddenly far less pressing. After a solid return with the bat, Ousmane Kawaja looks likely to retain his place for Boxing Day. Not so Nathan Lyon. This is a bad image here, that's as he realised what had happened. Having won a recall for Adelaide, a hamstring injury is almost certain to sideline the spinner, whilst Pat Cummins, who missed the first two tests with injury, is also unlikely to take his place with the series now won. Certainly before the series it was, while the series was live, let's, you know, take on the risk and have a crack at it. Now it's, now it's done. I think we'll need to have a chat about it.
