Well it was the first official training session for Australia as they look to retain the Ashes. As for the tourists, well they swapped out the cricket bat for some irons off the back of their three day intro squad match. Captain Ben Stokes and under pressure batsman Joe Root amongst a couple of groups hitting the fairways this morning. England's perceived lack of preparation for the series continuing to draw plenty of criticism from home. If you look at the preparation, are they 100% prepared or are they more worried about playing golf? You know, golf seems to be the bigger preparation than actually the warm up games. Once on the outer, now arguably the key to Australia's pace attack, Scotty Bolan will be hoping to emulate his debut Boxing Day heroics where he took six for seven. The absence of Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood's sideline with injury will give him plenty of opportunity to do so, but he will have to quickly adapt to the Perth wicket where he's yet to play any international of any form. Joe Root, target number one. I think you always want to try and take down the best players and in the past when Joe Root's been captain you always want to try and you want to make sure they have as little impact as you can. Yeah, hopefully we can keep Joe Root and the guys through the middle of the water pretty quiet. Scotty Bolan's played 14 test matches and been dropped four times, four or five times in 14 test matches, never to be dropped again. So that's the end of the New South Wales cartel and Scotty Bolan I'm sure will serve us brilliantly in this series. So England to put away the golf clubs over the next three days as they return to the Nets, but they will be hoping for a first test win with more golf plant in Noosa prior to the Gabba test.
