A 16-year-old boy riding an electric scooter was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Aurora, according to the Aurora Police Department.

A 16-year-old boy was killed in Aurora after being struck by a vehicle while riding his electric scooter home. The incident occurred at the intersection of East Wesley Drive and South Dunkirk Street, with witnesses reporting a car with a loud exhaust speeding away from the scene. 

Aurora police stated the teen was riding in the bike lane and following traffic rules when the collision occurred. The driver responsible for the hit-and-run remains at large as the victim's family and authorities appeal for information to help locate the suspect.

Her 16 year old son Dimitri was hit and killed just blocks away from home Friday night. The driver took off. How could you leave somebody like that on the road? Like road kill. She says the range view high schooler was at his girlfriend's house where they were hanging out with the rest of their friends. Just a few minutes before the accident. I just I didn't know that it was going to be Dimitri headed home on an electric scooter just after 11 p.m. Aurora police say he was riding in the bike lane and following the rules of the road when the vehicle hit him from behind. His family says he was conscious when help arrived, but he quickly took a turn for the worse when he got to the hospital where he died shortly after nobody in this world by themselves. And when you take somebody from this world, you're not just taking him a little bit of all of us died last night. Now living on in these memories, he loved his rock and roll. He left cars, was an avid guitar player, self taught future rock star or truck driver. If you asked him as his loved ones search for answers, sharing this message to whoever was behind the wheel on friday night. And I can assure whoever is responsible for what they did to Dimitri that Dimitri at the age of 16 was more man than that person is would never have done anything.
