It was supposed to be a sunrise ceremony but in true Newfoundland fashion the fog came over Signal Hill so fortunately it's starting to clear a little bit and you get to see a little bit of the view of beautiful downtown St. John's and not only was this the first place to celebrate Canada Day the first place to get a Canada Day cupcake complete with probably can't see it but there's a little maple leaf sprinkles all over the top of here so that's always a highlight of Canada Day celebrations but one of the things when I was chatting with people who got up bright and early in order to start their Canada Day here is this Canada Day feels different with Donald Trump and all the talk of the 51st state people wanted to show their patriotism a little more today here's what they told me the tensions between Canada and the United States we're still you know we're still best friends but we also need to show that we are a country you know strong and free does this Canada Day feel different with all of the talk of Trump and 51st state and I try not to think about him I really he really robs me the wrong way I'm sure same way with everybody but so gonna make us the 51st state no way so does that make it more important to come out and you know where the Canadian comes for sure it does and we both have our houses decorated with flags and balloons whatever we're very blessed to be in Canada on the way up on the shuttle that we were singing Oh Canada so we are an amazing province an amazing country and this year in particular just means a whole extra bit of love for Canada so we're very blessed to live in such a beautiful country definitely we've had to think a lot more about what it is to be Canadian and about what we want to be as a country internationally and there's been a lot of things over the past few years that I think have made us really think about that that's something we should keep in mind I mean yeah we have difference and you know we are not a utopia but we are better than many other and we got to make sure we stay as one we stay as a team and yeah and celebrate our differences and yeah that's it
