The event comes amid a reported 70 percent increase in hate crimes against LGBTQ individuals in Argentina during the first half of 2025, according to the National Observatory of LGBT Plus Hate Crimes. This marks the second major LGBTQ demonstration in the country this year, following a previous march in response to Mille's comments at the World Economic Forum.

Rainbow flags and slogans for equality filled the streets of Buenos Aires where thousands gathered to take part in Argentina's Pride Parade Saturday. Along with featuring vibrant music and colorful costumes, the event served as a political demonstration against what protesters argue are discriminatory policies by President Javier Mille's government. We are not everything the president once said we were. We are much more. We're here to demonstrate that we are people who have the same values as anyone else and that we deserve the same respect and value as any other person in the world. In Mille's first year in office, the far-right leader has been heavily criticized by Argentina's LGBTQ movement. Mille's controversial actions include dissolving the government agencies for gender equality and anti-discrimination, as well as cutting funding for reproductive health programs. This is the second major demonstration by the country's LGBTQ movement this year. The first, February's Federal Anti-Fascist and Anti-Racist Pride March, was a response to Mille's comments against Sikh wokeism and gender ideology at the World Economic Forum in Davos. I think it's essential to be out on the streets today, to fight, to keep demanding and above all to show the far-right that the people, the grassroots, are rising up and they're not going to put us back in the closet. We're going to keep fighting for our rights. This year's demonstrations come as hate crimes against LGBTQ people in Argentina are up 70 percent in the first half of 2025, compared with last year, according to the National Observatory of LGBT Plus Hate Crimes.
