President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced that 37 individuals are under investigation in connection with the scandal, including some of his allies. He pledged that cases against many of those implicated would be completed before Christmas, with those found guilty facing jail time.

The flood control scandal has galvanised the public, grown weary of official corruption, and still reeling from two back-to-back typhoons that killed more than 250 people. We are calling on the government to carry out a real, sincere investigation and not cover up for anyone involved in corruption. Whoever they are, whatever their position is in society, they should be held accountable. These thieves outrage us because we pay our taxes and these officials just plunder the treasury and rob us of our future. Instead of government funds going to the poor and those in need, they end up with the greedy and the rich. The Philippines is prone to typhoons and extreme weather. The World Bank estimates that storms cause around $3.5 billion worth of damage there every year. The climate crisis is also intensifying the strength and frequency of tropical storms and it's ramping up the already contentious issue of flood control. It's a scandal that could topple some high-level officials, including allies of the President, Ferdinand Marcos Jr. He told reporters 37 individuals are being investigated in connection with flood control projects. Before Christmas, the cases of many of those who are listed here will be completed. They will be jailed. They won't have a Merry Christmas. Before Christmas, they'll be jailed. And with only a few weeks to go, And with only a few weeks to go, many Filipinos hope their president can fulfil his Christmas promise.
