Airports across the United States are experiencing widespread delays and cancellations due to the ongoing government shutdown, which has resulted in many airport workers, including air traffic controllers and TSA staff, working without pay. Staffing shortages have led the Federal Aviation Administration to temporarily halt landings at some airports, and the situation is affecting airports nationwide, not just in Florida.

Major airlines have begun offering support such as food assistance to federal aviation employees impacted by the shutdown. Passengers are expressing frustration and concern about the potential for continued disruptions, especially as the holiday travel season approaches.

All right, this week, people working at our nation's airports are working without another paycheck, and that has led to sick outs and personnel shortages. CBS News correspondent Christian Benavidez is in Orlando, at Orlando International Airport, rather. So what are you seeing there, Christian? Last night, what happened here was just quite, quite concerning for so many passengers who are here waiting, people who may have been either heading to Orlando or leaving from Orlando International Airport. Staffing here is so limited that the Federal Aviation Administration briefly said that flights wouldn't be able to land here because there weren't enough traffic controllers. This morning, things are running. We've got a number of delays and a number of cancellations, but things are running. We've seen that the lines here aren't as long as you would expect to see, but we've seen that the delays and cancellations are not just happening here in Florida. They're happening at airports throughout the country. You've got reports of what's happening in Dallas, Fort Worth, at the nation's capital, and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said that as the shutdown continues, you're going to see more pressure on controllers, more pressure on TSA workers, and it's going to have an impact. Now several of the major airlines are stepping in to try to help some of those federal aviation employees. They're offering food assistance and other support to them because, again, it's not just the air traffic controllers. You've also got TSA workers that are not getting paid. So as you know, Christian, the Trump administration has tried to pin the delay on Democrats. The Homeland Security Secretary even recorded a message that was played at some airports. What are the flyers, the people behind you, saying about all this? Well, passengers overall are extremely frustrated. They know that the holidays are coming up, and they wonder, well, if it looks like this now and there doesn't seem to be some sort of end coming any time soon to this, could this extend into the holidays? If you're already seeing this sort of trouble happening today, what happens when it's Thanksgiving? And you've got a record number of travelers that are trying to get home for the holidays. That's the question on everyone's minds, and I think if you speak to people, they'll tell you that all they want is this shutdown to come to an end.
