Robots like Proteus and Cardinal are used to move, lift, and transport packages, working alongside human employees who sort and pack items. According to Amazon, these advancements have made the facility 25% more efficient than others, helping to ensure fast and accurate deliveries.

While some jobs are being replaced by automation, Amazon states that new roles, such as robotics maintenance engineers, are being created. Despite the growth in revenue and automation, Amazon's total number of employees has remained steady at around 1.5 million since 2022. The company emphasizes a collaborative approach between humans and machines in its operations.

No, it's a very noisy one right here Scott dresser is Amazon's vice president of robotics He introduced us to that robot in Proteus one of almost a thousand in shv1 So does this facility run 24 7 so it can run 24 hours a day and the robots we designed to run all day long if they need to Certainly as we come into our peak holiday season, which we're already getting ready for That's something we think about a lot because we will have to run the building almost all day around when a customer orders a product The robots get to work. These ones move the item out of storage Then one of the 2,500 employees sorts it while another packs it Before it travels along some of the nearly 15 miles of conveyor belts to get labeled meet Cardinal Our knowledge Lifting packages that weigh up to 50 pounds and then we can use Proteus to take the the container over to the docks a lot of it's less about performance more about making sure that our employees are safe the final step here a Human loads the packages onto a truck dresser says shv1 is 25% more efficient than other fulfillment centers You're ordering an order here in Shreveport right before Christmas and you need that by Christmas Robots are gonna help make sure we get that product to you fast safely and accurately He says while the robots are replacing some jobs They're also creating new ones every time we're able to grow and expand the network which robotics is enabled over the last decade We're able to add new jobs like our robotics maintenance engineers people that we need in the operation Now that we have these new robotics to help us run the building while Amazon's revenue has grown Its number of employees has held steady around one and a half million since 2022 You are a public company. You have a duty to your shareholders to maximize profit at what point does that become? more important than Ensuring that there's always a human element Dealing with something like Proteus the thing that we think of most when we're we're deploying a new fulfillment Operation or a new process in a fulfillment operation is how our people and robots best going to be able to do that together So man with machine versus man versus machine always man with machine
