The union representing the attendants highlights unresolved issues, including wages, work routes, and compensation for unpaid hours, as key points of contention after months of negotiations.

The union reports that 99.7% of its members supported the strike mandate, though a strike is not guaranteed and negotiations continue. Air Canada has acknowledged the vote, describing it as a normal part of the bargaining process, and expressed confidence that an agreement can be reached to avoid disruption to travellers.

So anytime the flight is in motion, we are paid. But if we're sitting at the gate with the door open or we arrive at the gate and we're waiting to the plane, that's unpaid. Like an Air Canada Rouge flight attendant could be required to operate a 14-hour duty day, but they would only be paid, say, seven hours if the flight was seven hours or less. He says 99.7% of members voted in favour of the strike action. It means that members are ready to go on strike, but it doesn't mean a strike will happen. The union says it could issue a 72-hour strike notice as early as August 16th if an agreement isn't reached. Passengers travelling at the airport today share how they're feeling about the news. Back on September 3rd, flying Air Canada again and hopefully it's not on strike then, otherwise I might have to walk home. You just have to roll with it, there's nothing you can do about it, so you have to plan accordingly. We pay a lot of money, they should get paid too. See, I didn't realize they didn't get paid for some of the stuff that they do, which is not right. Sit on a beach for a month. I'm not too worried about it. I mean, it is what it is, we'll figure it out. Well, there's not much we can do about it. In a statement, Air Canada acknowledged the result of the strike vote and says it is a normal step in the negotiation process.
