Thick fog has blanketed Adelaide affecting drivers and passengers. Flights were diverted and delayed, while a landing was aborted with one Melbourne-Adelaide service taking six hours. Road weather alerts have also been issued for drivers.

Adelaide experienced significant disruptions as a thick blanket of fog descended over the city, severely limiting visibility. The conditions led to the grounding and diversion of multiple flights at Adelaide Airport, with five flights redirected to Melbourne and six cancellations reported. 

The fog also impacted road traffic, causing slow commutes from the hills to the coast. According to the Weather Bureau, such fog is typical in winter but rarely causes this level of disruption. Operations at the airport gradually resumed as the fog lifted, but authorities caution that further delays are possible with more cold mornings expected.

You could barely see the runway and pilots could neither, as thick fog descended on Adelaide, grinding the airport to a halt. We touched down and it was just like poof, it came out of nowhere. Yeah, it just started fogging all up and we couldn't see anything. Well, you couldn't see nothing this morning. The winter mist causing chaos around 8 o'clock this morning, the dangerous conditions, grounding flights, diverting jets and throwing the airport into disarray. It was getting thicker as we got to the airport, so yeah, we could tell straight away coming to the airport that we may have issues. Five flights were forced to divert to Melbourne, unable to touch down. A Virgin flight came within metres of the runway before it had to abort. In all, six flights were cancelled, causing headaches for commuters on connecting flights. If we miss it, then we're cooked. We're going to have to be home today for sure. If you want to fly in this sort of weather, not a problem at all. We're happy to stay. It wasn't just the runway swallowed by fog, the entire city was blanketed in white. Visibility plummeted from the hills to the coast, turning morning commutes into a slow crawl. Then more than two hours after it descended, the fog finally began to lift. The first flight touching down moments later, with airport operations slowly returning to normal. A waiting game at the moment, a couple of hours, but that's OK. Could be worse. The Weather Bureau says foggy conditions are common in Adelaide during winter, but rarely do they cause this much chaos.
