The trend is reflected in declining ticket sales, with notable events like Burning Man and Coachella experiencing slowdowns for the first time. In 2024, 40 out of 1,168 US festivals were canceled. Experts note that younger audiences are increasingly choosing to experience music virtually through platforms like Fortnite and Roblox, further impacting in-person festival attendance.
