Workers reportedly endured harsh conditions, including long hours without pay, violence, and even murder, with some being shackled or forced to work at gunpoint. 

Prosecutors allege that hundreds of serious human rights violations occurred and are seeking a settlement to compensate victims and avoid a lengthy court case. Volkswagen has acknowledged the seriousness of the accusations but has stated it will first review the investigation's findings before commenting. Reports indicate that company management was made aware of these issues as early as the 1980s, but it remains unclear why no action was taken at the time.
