President Donald Trump attributed the attack to ISIS, stating that the Syrian government was not responsible and had fought alongside U.S. forces. The U.S. Central Command confirmed the gunman was killed, but did not disclose the individual's identity. The Iowa National Guard identified the two soldiers as Sergeant William Nathaniel Howard and Sergeant Edgar Brian Torres-Tovar.

President Trump promised significant retaliation against those responsible, emphasizing that further action would be taken beyond the death of the attacker. Three other individuals were injured in the attack, with two already released from the hospital and one expected to recover. The White House has not yet announced the specifics of the planned response.
