Ukraine is overhauling its minerals sector, which has been pounded by three years of war, in the hope of unlocking potential and attracting billions of dollars of investment from a minerals deal with the U.S., its ecology minister said.

Ecology Minister Svetlana Hrinchuk stated that the sector has suffered an estimated $1.7 trillion in losses during three years of conflict, with about half of key mineral resources located in occupied territories. 

The new deal, which established a fund to invest in Ukrainian mineral projects, is expected to boost the development of critical minerals needed for industries such as defense and green energy. Ukraine is focusing on improving geological data access, reducing bureaucracy, and updating lists of critical minerals to enhance the sector's potential.
