President Trump has warned Walmart against raising prices, instructing the nation's largest retailer to "eat the tariffs." The warning was delivered in a post on True Social, in which the president stated that Walmart should not blame tariffs for potential price increases and suggested that both the retailer and China should absorb the costs associated with tariffs.

This statement follows comments from Walmart CEO Doug McMillan, who said on a recent earnings call that prices may rise due to tariffs stemming from the administration’s trade dispute with China and other countries. McMillan indicated that even at lower tariff levels, consumers could see higher prices. Walmart has stated that it will keep prices as low as possible given the realities of tight retail margins, adding that the effect of tariffs is a form of tax not directly visible on receipts.

Walmart customers have expressed mixed opinions about the tariffs and possible price changes. Some believe the policy could be beneficial in the long term, while others are concerned about the impact of price increases. 

In a related development, several conservative Republicans have opposed the administration's so-called "big, beautiful bill," which proposes $880 billion in cuts to social programs. Five Republican members of the House Budget Committee joined Democrats in voting against the bill, with some conservatives arguing the cuts do not go far enough to reduce spending. The president has urged Republicans to unite behind the bill as another vote has been scheduled.
