This change is not a legalization of recreational marijuana but is anticipated to significantly expand research opportunities for medical uses, according to experts and industry leaders.

The White House also responded to the president's recent primetime address, with some Republican leaders expressing support and many Democrats voicing criticism. President Trump announced plans to deliver an extended version of his speech in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, as part of a strategy leading up to the 2026 congressional midterms.
