At least 37 people have died in the Moroccan coastal city of Safi following severe flooding caused by heavy rains. The Interior Ministry reported that overnight rainfall and flash floods inundated around 70 homes and businesses, swept away 10 vehicles, and led to the hospitalization of 14 people. 

Local hospitals in Safi have closed for three days due to the flooding, and other regions such as Tottouane and Tinghir have also been affected. Experts attribute the increased unpredictability of weather in Morocco to climate change and years of drought, which have heightened the risk of flooding. The incident follows previous deadly floods in the region and a recent building collapse in Fez.
