Airlines have been forced to ground thousands of Airbus planes following a software problem possibly linked to an aircraft's sudden loss of altitude last month.

A software malfunction has resulted in the grounding of around 6,000 Airbus A320 planes, impacting thousands of passengers with delays and cancellations across the globe. The problem was discovered after an incident in October, which revealed that solar radiation could interfere with flight controls.

While many aircraft were able to resume service after a software update, about 900 older planes require onboard computer replacements before returning to operation. The October incident that led to this discovery left at least 15 people injured.
