From elderly ladies enjoying a snack to an octopus climbing out of a laundry machine, CNN’s Lynda Kinkade recaps some of the winners of the World Food Photography Awards.

Thousands of food photographs from around the world competed in this year's World Food Photography Awards, which recognises excellence in food imagery. The competition, sponsored by broccoli brand Bimi, attracted more than 10,000 entries from 70 countries.

One of the top honours went to a photograph taken in Sichuan province, China, depicting five elderly women sharing Chinese spring rolls. This image earned its photographer nearly $7,000 and was selected as the overall winner.

Other recognised entries showcased a wide range of styles and subjects, from candid moments to carefully styled scenes. For example, a photograph capturing Pinot Noir grapes being harvested at night won the Wine Photograph of the Year. The Food Stylist Award was given to images of spaghetti and meatballs, noted by judges for highlighting both the messy and meticulous sides of pasta preparation.

The awards also included categories that focused on the process of food production and unconventional presentations. The Innovation Award went to an image resembling an octopus climbing out of a laundry machine. In addition, a photograph titled "Hogging the Limelight," featuring black piglets, won the Food in the Field Prize.

The competition aimed to showcase both the artistry and diversity present in contemporary food photography.
