The latest releases from Apple, the MacBook Air M4 and iPad Air M3, show that the tech giant has pursued an iterative approach to updates. The MacBook Air M4 offers performance gains of between 17 and 24% when compared to its predecessors, although this may not prompt users of recent models to upgrade. The new model retains features such as the adept screen, efficient keyboard, reliable battery life, and decent webcam, with only minor chip improvements and a new webcam addition this year.

The MacBook Air is recognized as a versatile laptop suitable for most tasks, although not specializing in any particular area. For customers contemplating a purchase, a focus on deals, RAM, and price is recommended. Presently, a 13-inch model should be available at $999, and a 15-inch at $1199. 

Similarly, the iPad Air M3 maintains many characteristics of its predecessor. It continues to deliver a 10-hour battery life and solid performance for graphics-intensive tasks without the heavy price tag of the iPad Pro. Noteworthy is the screen size choice, ranging from 11 inches to a more laptop-convenient 13 inches, and an upgraded Magic Keyboard that includes a function row for efficient use as a laptop alternative.

Ultimately, upgrading may be more compelling for users with older Intel MacBook Air models, where the gains in battery life and performance are significant. Those with an M1 or M2 may not yet feel the need. Similarly, for anyone with a much older or first-time iPad user, the iPad Air M3 serves as a powerful middle-ground option.
