A Scottsdale CEO is accused of using retirement plans and health insurance premiums to fund exotic hunting trips to Africa and Alaska, as well as cash gifts for his girlfriend.

James Vincent Campbell, the CEO of Scottsdale-based Axum Fringe Solutions LLC, has been charged with felony theft and money laundering. Prosecutors allege Campbell embezzled more than $2.4 million from employee health insurance premiums and 401k contributions, which were intended for federal workers. 

Court documents state that Campbell diverted the funds into a master account beginning in 2015, making 135 unauthorized withdrawals to pay for personal expenses, such as exotic hunting trips, gambling, jewelry, and gifts. Campbell has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and his attorney has not yet responded to requests for comment.
