Each officer received a 15-year prison sentence, with two currently detained in a San Salvador hospital and a third, Colonel Mario Adalberto Reyes Mena, residing in the United States under an extradition order. The court also issued a symbolic condemnation of the Salvadoran state for delayed justice and ordered a public apology from the armed forces. The case is seen as significant for victims' families and journalists, though many other civil war-era cases remain unresolved.
