Calgary International Airport has reopened its West runway after a comprehensive two-year reconstruction project. The runway, originally built in 1939, underwent structural and electrical repairs, taxiway improvements, and upgrades to lighting and climate resilience.

The project was completed on schedule and slightly under its $200 million budget, with funding from Calgary airports and the federal government. Conservation efforts such as water reuse and materials recycling were also included, and officials expect the runway to serve the region for the next 40 years, with first flights scheduled for late November and full operations by early December.
