The reported cyberattacks occurred as candidates concluded their campaign events before voters select a new president to succeed incumbent Andrzej Duda.

One of the leading candidates is Rafał Trzaskowski, the liberal mayor of Warsaw and a senior figure in Tusk's Civic Platform party. Polling data suggests that the race is likely to come down to Trzaskowski and conservative candidate Karol Nawrocki, with a decisive victory in the first round considered unlikely.

In Poland's political system, the president holds significant powers, including serving as commander-in-chief of the armed forces, possessing veto authority, influencing foreign policy, and fulfilling an important symbolic function in national affairs.
