New Mexico has begun offering universal free childcare, fully covering tuition for families across the state. The program is funded by investment earnings from the state's oil revenues and is designed to help parents rejoin the workforce, attract new residents, and address declining birth rates.

To meet increased demand, the state is providing loans to build additional childcare centers and offering wage boosts to childcare workers. Officials expect to expand capacity to serve every eligible child within a year, with the initiative potentially serving as a model for other states.
