Thousands of delays were reported at airports across the U.S. on Memorial Day, one of the busiest travel days of the year. CBS News' Meg Oliver has more from Newark Liberty International Airport.

Airports throughout the United States reported nearly 2,000 delays and dozens of cancellations as travelers faced disruptions during the busy Memorial Day travel period. Severe weather, including storms and fog in cities such as Denver and Dallas, contributed to widespread delays, with some airports implementing ground stops.

At Newark Liberty International Airport, more than 900 delays were reported, but conditions improved after a reduction in scheduled flights per hour, attributed to recent air traffic control and equipment outages as well as staffing shortages. Despite the challenges, many travelers at Newark experienced minimal wait times and manageable conditions, though those affected by flight cuts faced greater inconvenience.
