Their allegations have sparked condemnation from human rights groups and the public, particularly in Kenya. The incident has also led to diplomatic tensions, with Tanzanian authorities deporting other foreign observers, including Kenya's former justice minister Martha Karua. Experts and commentators have questioned Tanzania's commitment to human rights and regional cooperation, while calling for respect for activists' rights across East Africa.
