Canadian voters are casting their ballots deciding whether the liberal party will stay in power or if conservatives will take control for the first time in nearly a decade.

Canadian elections operate on a system where voters elect local lawmakers representing different political parties; the leader of the party with the majority of seats in Parliament becomes the Prime Minister. This election sees Mark Carney, leader of the Liberal Party and current Prime Minister following Justin Trudeau's resignation, competing against Pierre Polliev of the Conservative Party.

The campaign process has been notably affected by U.S. President Trump's tariffs, as well as his comments suggesting Canada could be better off as the 51st state of the U.S. These remarks have ignited a wave of Canadian nationalism, which appears to be a contributing factor to an increase in support for the Liberal Party. Once trailing by 20 points, the Liberals now lead by about four points.

President Trump has made public remarks on the election through Truth Social, wishing Canadians success in their decision-making process. He advised citizens to elect a leader capable of cutting taxes and increasing military power. Election results are anticipated by early next week.
