Apple’s iPhone may soon see a price hike due to new tariffs imposed on products made in China, where a significant portion of Apple’s manufacturing occurs. Under the tariff changes, Chinese-made products face a 104 percent import duty, which could increase Apple's costs by as much as 43 percent. This surge could push the top-of-the-line iPhone 16 Pro Max from its current price of $1,600 to nearly $2,300.

Shifting iPhone production to the United States could result in even higher prices. Apple's chief supplier in China, Foxconn, pays workers under $4 an hour, a stark contrast to potential U.S. labor costs. Analysts predict that U.S.-made iPhones could cost up to $3,500 each. In addition to manufacturing location concerns, Apple continues to grapple with tariffs on iPhone components made in India and Vietnam, facing levies of 26 and 46 percent, respectively.

The tariff impacts could also provoke broader financial challenges for Apple, threatening up to $40 billion, or nearly a third, of the company’s operating profit. With the iPhone accounting for 51 percent of Apple's sales, the company is reportedly considering relocating production to India or Brazil. However, the uncertainty of international trade policies complicates long-term strategic planning for Apple and other multinational companies amid shifting global economic policies.
