Climate change is increasingly influencing where Americans can live and farm, according to CBS climatologist Marina Jurica. Rising sea levels, chronic flooding, and intensifying hurricanes are threatening homes in coastal areas such as Miami, Norfolk, and parts of Louisiana, while sea level rise is also eroding beaches and cliffs in California. Some communities are already being forced to relocate due to these environmental pressures.

Beyond the coasts, wildfires and shifting rainfall patterns are making parts of the West and agricultural regions like the Midwest and Central Valley of California more difficult for both residents and farmers. Changing weather patterns are leading to droughts, heat waves, and storms that disrupt traditional farming practices, with some farmers altering planting schedules or switching crops. Livestock are also affected, as extreme heat can significantly reduce milk production, contributing to instability in the food system.
