Today is Black Friday, that U.S. shopping holiday that's the delight of bargain hunters the world over, but if you're on the lookout for a good deal or two, be careful! A recent trend has become alarmingly common - for scams over fake promotions and on false websites.

Online scams, including fake promotions and mirror websites, are on the rise, particularly around the holiday shopping season. These fraudulent sites often closely mimic legitimate retailers, deceiving both consumers and businesses, and are increasingly easy to create with artificial intelligence tools.

Authorities report a significant increase in such scams during the Christmas period, with criminals using these sites to steal personal data and credit card information. In 2024 alone, fake websites enabled thieves to steal 382 million euros from unsuspecting victims.
