Following a controversial decision by former President Donald Trump, Michael Fanone, a former Washington D.C. Metro police officer, has spoken out about his concerns for personal and family safety. Fanone, who was injured defending the Capitol during the January 6th riots, expressed feelings of betrayal after Trump pardoned Daniel Rodriguez and five others involved in the assault against him. Rodriguez had attacked Fanone using a stun gun, causing him to lose consciousness and suffer a heart attack.

Fanone conveyed his disappointment, highlighting that many of those pardoned had issued threats against him and his family. He stated that actions supporting the pardons exacerbate threats to law enforcement and their families. After his testimony before Congress on the events of January 6th, Fanone reported receiving ongoing personal threats, emphasizing the safety concerns he and his family continue to face.

The former officer recounted troubling incidents involving his family, including threats received by his mother, who has faced harassment despite her innocence in the situation. Fanone believes that the pardon decision, in addition to escalating personal risks, represents a broader issue in society. He voices concern over what he perceives as a declining sense of national unity and safety, exacerbated by political actions.
