The Democratic Republic of Congo held an official ceremony in Kinshasa to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Patrice Lumumba's birth. The event took place at the mausoleum where Lumumba's remains are housed and was attended by his daughter and the Congolese culture minister.

Patrice Lumumba, born in 1925 in what was then the Belgian Congo, played a significant role in the country's anti-colonial movement and became its first prime minister after independence in 1960. His leadership and nationalist stance made him a target for Western intelligence agencies, and he was killed in 1961 by Katangan separatists with the complicity of Belgium and the CIA. Lumumba remains an important figure in Congolese and African history.
