The national consumer watchdog has identified several such 'ghost stores', including Willow & Grace Adelaide, Everly Melbourne, Double Bay Boutique, and Sophie Clare, warning that many more operate similar scams.

Victims report receiving counterfeit or incorrect items, or not receiving their purchases at all. The scams often use AI-generated images and fake five-star reviews to appear credible. Authorities advise shoppers to look for warning signs such as the absence of an Australian business number, lack of a physical address or phone number, and negative reviews on independent platforms. Pursuing the operators of these scams is challenging, as many are based overseas.
