Rising electricity prices, driven by climate change, are making it more costly for Americans to keep their homes cool, according to research from Texas A&M University. The study found that in recent summers, climate change increased wholesale electricity costs by up to 35 percent in some regions, with the extra costs ultimately passed on to consumers.

Low-income households are particularly affected, as many rely on federal assistance programs that are now at risk of being eliminated. While solar power offers a potential solution by providing cheaper energy, proposed policy changes favoring fossil fuels over renewables could further increase energy costs for consumers.
