Capture6, a California startup, has introduced a technology that utilizes waste from water treatment processes to produce clean water and remove carbon dioxide from the air. The process involves taking brine, a byproduct of water treatment, extracting fresh water, and converting the remaining sodium into lye, which then absorbs CO2 when exposed to air. 

The company is collaborating with the Palmdale Water District to build a pilot facility, which is expected to reduce both capital and operational costs for the district. Capture6 has received $27.5 million in funding from various investors and is also active in regions such as Western Australia, Korea, and New Zealand. The company states its process can operate on renewable energy and generate revenue through the sale of carbon credits.
