The chip is produced at AWS's Annapurna Labs and is part of the company's strategy to strengthen its position against competitors such as NVIDIA, Intel, and AMD.

AWS has also recently deployed its Tranium 2 chips to build a large AI supercomputer for Anthropic, a move that traditionally would have involved NVIDIA. While AWS currently does not sell its chips as individual components, company representatives indicated they may consider this if customer demand increases. AWS's chips are noted for being offered at a lower price point compared to competitors. Rumors about AWS potentially placing new GPU orders with AMD remain unconfirmed.
