Prosecutors have requested that Sansal's five-year prison sentence be doubled to ten years, along with a significant fine. The case has attracted attention in France, with the French president expressing concern over Sansal's detention and health, as the author is 80 years old and suffers from prostate cancer. The situation has contributed to worsening diplomatic relations between Algeria and France.
