In what was once an area to feed cattle in Iowa, the seed of a tennis enthusiast's dream was planted. Steve Hartman revisits the story.

Mark Kuhn, a lifelong tennis enthusiast from Charles City, Iowa, transformed a section of his family farm into a detailed replica of Wimbledon's Center Court. This endeavor began after Kuhn stumbled upon a BBC broadcast about tennis on his ham radio as a child, sparking a profound interest in the sport. In 2003, Kuhn spent a year and a half constructing the grass court, and further honed his skills in maintenance through an internship at Wimbledon itself.

Kuhn's farm has since turned into an attraction, drawing visitors not only from Iowa and Minnesota but also from 49 states and eight countries. Among visitors to the replica court is professional tennis player Madison Keys. Despite his admiration for the sport, Kuhn has never charged for the use of the court. 

Facing challenges due to his age and health, including Parkinson's disease, Kuhn has been contemplating the court's future. To ensure its preservation, he has set up a foundation dedicated to maintaining the court. Kuhn remains hopeful that the court will continue to serve as a unique gathering place for tennis enthusiasts long into the future.
