Paramount Global, the parent company of CBS News, has reached a $16 million settlement with former President Donald Trump to resolve a lawsuit related to a '60 Minutes' interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris. The lawsuit alleged that CBS edited the interview in a way that favored Harris and harmed Trump, a claim legal experts described as lacking merit. 

The settlement was influenced by Paramount's ongoing efforts to secure government approval for a merger with Skydance, as CBS owns government-licensed local stations. Paramount did not issue an apology as part of the agreement and stated that future '60 Minutes' interviews with presidential candidates will have full transcripts released after airing. The settlement has raised questions among some lawmakers about potential legal implications, but Paramount maintains there is no connection between the payout and the merger approval process.
