These violent acts by settlers were reportedly in retaliation for the killing of a 14-year-old Israeli.



Violence surges in West Bank as settlers target Palestinians

Marching near Nablus in the West Bank, mourners carry the body of Yazan Ishtia. He's one of the eight Palestinians killed in the occupied territory since Friday. The 17-year-old died during an Israeli raid on Monday. According to the Israeli border police, rioting broke out during the operation and one person threw an explosive device at troops who shot the person dead. Yazan's mother said her son had become angry after being beaten at the Al-Aqsa compound in Jerusalem. The Jews attacked them in Al-Rama Mosque. They started beating them, the women and the children. My son came home barefoot and bruised with batten marks on his skin. Hours after Yazan's death, two more Palestinians were killed, this time by armed Israeli settlers. The army says it had received reports of a Palestinian attacking a Jewish shepherd near the settlement of Gatit, about an hour's drive from Nablus. A violent confrontation developed there between Palestinians and Israeli citizens. IDF forces were dispatched to the scene and worked to disperse the confrontation. During the incident, two Palestinians were killed. The West Bank has seen a surge in violence since Hamas's October 7 attacks on Israel. But the situation escalated further on Friday when a 14-year-old Israeli boy went missing. His body was found on Saturday, Israel pointing to a suspected militant attack. Over the weekend, hundreds of armed Jewish settlers raided Palestinian villages near the city of Ramallah. And in this footage published by an Israeli rights group, masked settlers appeared to set fire to a car under the watch of at least three Israeli soldiers. Since the outbreak of the war, officials say more than 460 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli forces or settlers, while at least 13 Israelis have been killed during the same period.
