What we're seeing right now is this perfect storm for new grads between the uncertainty in the economy and the disruption that we're starting to see from AI as it takes on more and more of the tasks of entry-level work. The knowledge economy that we have been in for the past 50 years or so, it is on the way out. It's done. There's a new economy that's emerging. There are three things that every new grad, every new worker should know. First, focus on your skills. Capabilities are going to matter more than credentials. It's now about skills that you have and that you hone. It's about what you can do. Think about how AI is doing so many technical tasks like coding and analyzing and processing. For humans at work, it's going to be the non-technical skills. Curiosity, compassion, creativity, courage, and communication. Those are your core skills. Second thing, build your habits. You've got to be a learn-it-all across your career, not just until you're done with school. You've got to be a learn-it-all about AI, not just in theory, but using AI tools in your day-to-day. And then you've got to learn your uniqueness. What is it that's your edge that you want to hone? You've got to make your uniqueness your edge. And then the third thing for all new grads is see careers as climbing walls, not ladders. That old ladder, it's gone. And that's a good thing. I know it was predictable and you know what you needed to do, but you also knew that you had to play by other people's rules. The climbing wall gives you a lot more control, a lot more paths to take. Don't have a five-year plan. Don't have a 10-year plan. I'm here to tell you, you don't need them. They'll be dated by the time you get there. Just have a today plan.
